Radiant Intensity Measurements

Directional radiant power is known as radiant intensity and is measured in watts per steradian (W/sr). Radiant intensity is often used to determine the efficiency of lensed sources such as automotive headlights and warning beacons which emit a parallel beam. Detectors with a defined field of view at a fixed distance and satisfying point source conditions are used to measure intensity.
