Environmental Management

Because it is important for us

Gigahertz Optik GmbH's environmental management is led by the company's management and involves our employees and partner companies. Our products are developed and manufactured in compliance with applicable laws. Environmentally conscious action is firmly anchored in the corporate culture of Gigahertz-Optik GmbH. Our measures range from the consistent use of renewable energies and environmentally friendly packaging solutions to the resource-saving design of internal processes.

As part of the Berghof Group, we strive to continuously improve our environmental performance. A common goal is to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions by 50% by 2030 – through greater energy efficiency, optimized production processes, and the use of sustainable materials.

In the spirit of a closed material cycle, we increasingly focus on recycling, waste prevention, and innovative, environmentally friendly packaging technologies.

In addition to ecological aspects, social responsibility also plays an important role: We actively promote our employees, support local projects, and create transparency through regular communication about our sustainability goals and successes.

With our sophisticated measurement systems, we enable advances in pioneering areas such as solar energy, environmental monitoring, and efficient lighting – thus contributing, together with our partners, to a more sustainable world.

Gigahertz Optik GmbH does not have any certification for its environmental management. We work according to our own high standards.

1. Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (WEEE) of March 16, 2005

Gigahertz Optik GmbH is registered with the EAR under WEEE Reg. No.: DE68443133.

2. Restricted Substances – RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU, 2015/863/EU, 2017/2102/EU

Gigahertz Optik GmbH confirms that, to the best of its knowledge, all products sold by Gigahertz Optik GmbH (unless explicitly marked) comply with Directive 2011/65/EU and its amendments 2015/863/EU and 2017/2102/EU. These products meet the current requirements of the RoHS Directive for all 10 specified materials (max. 0.1% by weight in homogeneous material for lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), polybrominated biphenyl (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE), diphthalate (DEHP), butylbenzyl phthalate (BBP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP), and max. 0.01% by weight for cadmium).

Our merchandise also complies with the RoHS directives.

3. Chemicals in Consumer Products (REACH Regulation EC No. 1907/2006)

The European Chemicals Regulation (REACH) has been directly applicable in all EU Member States since January 1, 2007, and will enter into force on June 1, 2007.
With the three elements of registration, evaluation, and authorization of chemicals, REACH creates a comprehensive chemicals management system designed to ensure a high safety standard throughout Europe regarding environmental and health risks associated with the use of chemicals. The registration and evaluation requirement applies to manufacturers or importers of chemicals from non-EU countries who place more than one ton of a chemical on the market per year. It also applies to manufacturers of non-chemical products (articles) if chemicals are released from these articles under normal and reasonably foreseeable conditions and the quantity threshold of 1 ton/year is exceeded for all the manufacturer's articles. Substances of very high concern are also subject to authorization.

Gigahertz Optik GmbH is a manufacturer of measuring instruments for the evaluation of optical radiation and optical material parameters. All Gigahertz Optik products are manufactured in accordance with the applicable regulations, including REACH. Gigahertz Optik products are considered articles (non-chemical products) within the meaning of the REACH Regulation and, as far as is known, are not subject to registration, evaluation, or authorization requirements. To the best of our knowledge, no chemicals are released under normal and reasonably foreseeable conditions, nor is the quantity threshold of 1 t/year exceeded.

The obligation to provide information for manufacturers of articles pursuant to Article 33 of the REACH Regulation only applies to so-called substances of high concern that meet the criteria of Article 57. These substances must also be present in the article in a concentration of more than 0.1 percent by mass. A candidate list was published for the first time by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and is available on its website at ECHA. The publication of the candidate list does not yet result in an authorization requirement. This only applies once the candidate list has been transferred to Annex XIV of the REACH Regulation. If the substances of concern are present in articles in quantities exceeding 1 t/year, a notification must be submitted to the European Chemicals Agency (Source: ZVEI guidance on the information obligations of companies under Article 33 of the REACH Regulation).

4. Ecodesign Directive (Directive 2009/125/EC)

Gigahertz Optik GmbH does not meet the criteria – distributor, product groups – and is therefore exempt from this directive.

5. Chemicals

5.1 Chemicals Act 2002
5.2 Chemicals Prohibition Ordinance 2003
5.3 Directive 94/62/EC

Gigahertz-Optik GmbH does not manufacture or distribute chemicals and is therefore exempt from regulation.

6. Conflict Minerals

Statement by Gigahertz Optik GmbH regarding the use of "conflict minerals" in its products pursuant to Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Act Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank Act)

The Dodd-Frank Act specifically applies to tin, tantalum, tungsten, columbite, gold, and their derivatives mined in conflict zones, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighboring countries. Furthermore, it aims, among other things, to restrict or prevent trade in these substances originating from these conflict zones.

Although Gigahertz Optik GmbH is not subject to the reporting requirements of the Dodd-Frank Act, we are aware of the importance and significance of this regulation. We take our social responsibility with regard to the environment, safety, health, and human rights seriously and understand that our business conduct impacts society and the environment.

Gigahertz Optik GmbH does not source conflict minerals themselves or their derivatives directly from metal smelters or other sources in the conflict region. However, due to their properties, these metals are widely used in the electronics industry and are also found in the components and parts we use to manufacture our products.

As a medium-sized company, we work with our suppliers to the best of our ability to ensure the necessary supply chain transparency, which allows us to provide our customers with reliable information. Currently, we have no information that conflict minerals are used in our supply chains that directly or indirectly finance violent conflicts and human rights violations.

Should we discover indications of the presence of conflict minerals in supplied parts during our investigations, we undertake to take appropriate action.
